9070: Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: File Backup Fails with "The specified file does not exist" if the Source Folder Is Deleted

Last update: 09-11-2010

This has been fixed

This article applies to:

  1. You create a file backup task to back up several folders;
  2. Then you delete one of the folders set to be backed up;
  3. The backup task fails with an error message similar to the following one:

    Type: Error
    Date and time: 3/3/2010 6:14:32 AM
    Backup plan: data_backup
    Task: Full backup ('once later' scheme)
    Code: 11,863,304(0xB50508)
    Module: 181
    Owner: Administrator@ABR
    Task 'Full backup ('once later' scheme)' failed: 'The specified file does not exist.
    Additional info:
    Error code: 17
    Module: 4
    LineInfo: f35f747b3b21fb14
    Fields: function : FindFirstFileW, filename : C:\Folder1\Folder2, $module : C:\Program Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe
    Message: The specified file does not exist.
    Error code: 65520
    Module: 0
    LineInfo: bd28fdbd64edb8bc
    Fields: code : 2147942402
    Message: The system cannot find the file specified

Sample scenario

  1. You have a partition with the following folder structure:

  2. You create a file backup task to back up Folder1, Folder2 and entire FolderB;
  3. You delete Folder2 from the partition;
  4. You run the file backup task, and the task fails with the error message The specified file does not exist - because Folder2 is one of the source folders to be backed up;
  5. However, if you delete a subfolder within FolderB (e.g. Folder4) - the task will run normally, because it is only a subfolder of a source folder.

This is the design of the product. If one of the source folders set to be backed up is deleted, the file backup task will fail.

However if one of the subfolders (not chosen to be backed up directly) is deleted, the backup task will not fail.

(!) This has been fixed and the fix is available in the latest build of the product. See Installation of the latest update of an Acronis product.

If you do not want to install the latest build, as a workaround you can recreate the backup task.
